ASEAN COMPREHENSIVE INVESTMENT AGREEMENT (ACIA)

WHAT IS THE ACIA ABOUT?

The ASEAN Comprehensive Investment Agreement (ACIA) came into effect on 29 March 2012 and was signed by ten ASEAN member states. Its objective is to support a free, open, transparent and integrated investment regime in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, in line with the goal of achieving an ASEAN Economic Community by 2015. Furthermore, it is designed to support increasing intra-ASEAN investments and to enhance ASEAN’s competitiveness in attracting inward investments into ASEAN to achieve economic integration under AEC in accordance with the AEC Blueprint.

Myanmar, as a member state of ASEAN and part of the ACIA, is partnering with the other ASEAN members to implement the four pillars of ACIA:
